Scotty B was born in New Orleans in the mid-1970s. As the son of an opera singer in the birthplace of Jazz, Blues, and Zydeco, he was exposed to boundless musical expression but found solace in loud, basic rock n roll. At age 15, He fronted his first band with singer/songwriter Rory Collins on guitar--playing mostly Gn'R and Motley Crue covers at concerts in their own backyards. In 1994, Scott began to study graphic design and discovered punk rock through his professor, artist Paul Dean. Dean had designed a book containing album art of the Sex Pistols, Buzzcocks, and Dead Kennedys. Scott began to adopt this graphic style and became intrigued by the punk movement itself. Coincidentally, Green Day, Rancid, and countless other Bay-area punk bands were rejuvenating the genre at the very same time. Through their influence, Scott started writing music and performed solo acoustic punk sets in various dive bars near campus. In 1998, he left Louisiana for Texas and fronted two bands. The first, an 8-piece ska band called Idiot Box, and the second, a straight-up hard rock and punk band called Moneyshot. Both experiences were short-lived however because in May 2000, he moved to London, England for six months. Upon his return, he decided to fulfill a long-time desire to move to New York City. From April 2001 to May 2003, New York chewed him up and nearly spit him out. With a false sense of stability and more than something to prove, Scott joined Napalm Stars as rhythm guitarist. That band provided an energetic outlet, but deep down he wanted more and the group split less than a year after he joined. Determined to gain new momentum, Scotty and bassist Tommy initialized work on new material for a new band, what has now become F-Units. During this time, Scotty did a brief stint as guitarist for Karen Curious's New Professionals along with ex-Napalm Stars and current drummer of The Choke, Jonny Napalm. F-Units is now his sole musical project as he continues work in design. |
